The Solopreneur's Lonely Decision Desk
You are the CEO, the finance director, the operations manager, and the marketing head. But when was the last time you held a formal, 30-minute "Board Meeting" with yourself to review the health of your business? If the answer is "never" or "when there's a problem," you're operating blind most of the time.
Your Stonehenge Digital dashboard is your board pack. Here is a simple 5-metric, 8-second "Monthly CEO Review" you can pull up on your phone while waiting for a matatu, that tells you everything you need to know.
The 5-Metric Dashboard (Customizable Home Screen)
Set your dashboard home screen to display these five cards prominently:
Metric 1: Gross Profit (KES) This Month vs. Last Month
Why: Revenue is vanity, gross profit is sanity. If this number is declining, your costs are rising faster than sales.
Metric 2: Net Cash Position (KES)
Why: This is the "Can I pay salaries and rent on Friday?" number. It's your M-Pesa + Bank balances minus imminent payables. If it's trending down, you need to collect debtors or slow down purchases.
Metric 3: Inventory Days (Days of Stock on Hand)
Why: How many days can you keep selling without buying more stock? If it's rising (e.g., 60 days vs. a target of 30), you have too much cash trapped in inventory. If it's too low (e.g., 5 days), you're about to stock out.
Metric 4: Top 3 Products by Profit Contribution
Why: Know what's truly making you money this month, not just what's selling. A product with high revenue but low profit might be a distraction from your real profit engine.
Metric 5: One "Action Required" Alert
The dashboard intelligently surfaces ONE critical alert for the month: "Follow up on overdue invoices: 3 clients owe KES 45,000 past 30 days" or "Reorder alert: Best-seller X is below reorder point." This is the "What needs my attention first?" prompt.
The Monthly Ritual
Schedule a 30-minute recurring calendar event: "My Board Meeting." Open the dashboard. Read the 5 cards. Write down two actions:
- One thing you will START doing based on the data.
- One thing you will STOP doing.
Example: "START: Focus sales push on Product A (high profit). STOP: Re-ordering Product B until we clear dead stock."
Close the dashboard. Execute the two actions for the next month. That's your strategic plan.
Your business is the sum of the decisions you make every month. Make them informed decisions.

The idea of a monthly self-review is so simple but so powerful. I usually just react to whatever is on fire. Having a structured 30-minute meeting with myself would change my business. My only question: What if I don't understand one of the metrics (like "Inventory Days")? Does the dashboard have a "Learn" tooltip or video that explains the metric in simple Swahili/English? Because if the dashboard is too complex, I'll avoid it. The simpler and more intuitive it is, the more likely I'll use it. And the "Action Required" alert is brilliant—it filters the noise and tells me what to focus on.

The "One Thing to Start, One Thing to Stop" framework is a classic productivity hack. Applied to business management, it's gold.

I spend all my time working IN the business, not ON it. This dashboard ritual forces me to step back and work ON it. I'm scheduling my first "board meeting" this Friday.

The "Matatu wait" context is perfect. You don't need a fancy boardroom to review your business health. Just your phone.

The "Top 3 Products by Profit" is the metric I'm most excited about. I suspect I'm selling a lot of low-profit stuff and ignoring my real money-makers.

This is the ultimate solopreneur tool. I don't have a board of directors. I am the board. The dashboard holds me accountable.
