You Exist, But You Don't
You registered your business. You have an office. You even have a website—something your cousin's friend built two years ago. It's sitting somewhere on the internet. But when a procurement officer at the Ministry of Health Googles your company name, nothing appears. Or worse, a broken link shows up. Or a placeholder page with "Coming Soon."
You are a ghost. And in the world of Kenyan government tenders, ghosts don't get contracts. They don't even make the shortlist.
The "Ghost Website" is a pervasive problem among otherwise qualified SMEs. Your digital existence is technically there, but functionally invisible—to search engines, to procurement officers, and to the IFMIS portal that now checks supplier digital profiles.
How to Know if You're a Ghost
Perform these three checks right now:
- Google your exact business name in quotes:
"Your Company Name Limited". Does your website appear as the first result? If not, Google doesn't trust your site. - Google your KRA PIN or registration number: If nothing surfaces, you have zero digital footprint linking your compliance identity to your business.
- Check your site on a 3G connection: Does it load in under 5 seconds? If not, you're invisible to mobile-first procurement officers.
The Stonehenge Digital Exorcism
We turn ghost websites into tangible, tender-winning assets by focusing on three areas:
1. Technical SEO & Indexing
Your site must be submitted to Google Search Console with a proper sitemap. It needs HTTPS (SSL certificate), which is now a ranking factor. It must be crawlable. Many DIY websites block search engines accidentally. We audit and fix this within 24 hours.
2. Content That Matches Procurement Queries
Procurement officers search for "company profile + [sector] + Kenya" and "KRA compliant + [service]". Your site must have pages that explicitly use these phrases. Not stuffed, but naturally placed. We craft service pages that align with the exact language of tender documents.
3. Backlinks from Trusted Kenyan Domains
Google's algorithm heavily weights backlinks from .go.ke, .or.ke, and .ac.ke domains. If your company is mentioned on a government portal, a university site, or a reputable NGO site, you need a link back to you. We help build legitimate, high-trust backlinks through directory listings, press features, and partnerships.
Stop Haunting the Internet. Start Owning It.
Your website is your digital bid bond. If it's not visible, it's worthless. Make it visible, and make it work for you 24 hours a day, including when the tender portal opens at midnight.

I just Googled my company name. Nothing. My site isn't even on page 5. I am a ghost. This is terrifying and enlightening. I need an exorcism.

As someone who has sat on tender evaluation committees, I can confirm this. We absolutely Google the company. If the site doesn't load or looks unprofessional, we often move on. I've seen brilliant local firms lose out because their online presence was almost non-existent. The point about backlinks from
.go.ke
domains is crucial. If your company was previously awarded a government contract and there's a public notice about it online, get that linked to your site. It's a massive trust signal. Also, ensure your KRA PIN is visible somewhere. That's the first thing we check when we can't find a compliance page.

The SSL certificate note is basic but so many miss it. Google flags non-HTTPS sites as "Not Secure". That alone can scare off a procurement officer.

I thought having a website was enough. I didn't realize I needed to actively make it visible. I'm booking a consultation.

The tip about Google Search Console is gold. I just checked mine—my site hasn't been crawled in 4 months. I'm submitting it now.

I always wondered why my cousin's site never appeared. Now I know. It's a ghost. I'll send this to him.

The 3G load test is a reality check. Most Kenyan officers browse on their phones with patchy data. If your site is heavy, you're out.

I love the phrase "digital bid bond". That's exactly what a professional site is. I'm investing in this.

Question: If I have a basic Wix site but with a custom domain, can you still do the SEO work to make it visible? Or do I need a completely new build?

This is a wake-up call. I've been a ghost for two years. Time to materialize.
