The Challenge
Enćani was founded in June 2025 to confront the psychic, social, and material toll of colonialism, capitalism, and patriarchy on African movement communities. The organisation needed a website that reflected its bold, artistic, and revolutionary identity — not a conventional NGO site. The founder, Noosim Naimasiah, envisioned 'a living political, intellectual, and spiritual home' with a 'Living Archive' of session reports, texts, audio, and video — plus a publications section, healer profiles, an events calendar, and a solidarity contributions page framed as mutual aid, not transactional donations.
A strong preference for a non-white-background, 'bold and striking' design inspired by sacred.design and rpublc.com, Enćani needed a reliable partner who could deliver both technical robustness and aesthetic courage. Our Solution
Stonehenge Digital stepped in after a referral from Mr. Kimani of The Ukombozi Library. Working closely with Noosim and her team of six, we rescued the project and built a custom WordPress website that embodies Enćani's mission and values.
Artistic, Revolutionary Design
The design deliberately avoids white backgrounds and Kenyan flag colours. Instead, we used deep earth tones, bold typography, and textured overlays to create a 'musical' visual rhythm — as the client requested. The layout is striking but organised, balancing artistic expression with usability. The homepage features a non-linear, immersive grid that invites exploration.
Living Archive (Core Feature)
A custom post type for 'Archive Entries' allows the team to upload session reports, audio recordings, video clips, and texts, all tagged by theme (e.g., 'ACoHP sessions', 'Sankofa circles', 'African Healing Curriculum'). The archive is fully searchable and filterable, serving as a growing repository of African healing praxis.
Key Pages & Functionality
- About Us: Includes the organisation's mission, vision, and core values (collective liberation, praxis, African epistemologies, communalist politics, non-extractive economics, ancestral continuity). A custom illustration by renowned Kenyan cartoonist Gado (planned) will be added.
- Our Team / Healers Profiles: Grounded presentations of the six team members and guest facilitators.
- Programmes: Clear descriptions of ongoing healing circles, political education forums, and community gatherings.
- Publications / Writings: Essays, reflections, research outputs, and curriculum fragments.
- Events Calendar: Simple events listing with registration forms for webinars, forums, and learning series.
- Solidarity Contributions: A dedicated page framed as mutual aid, with integrated payments via M-Pesa (STK Push), bank transfer, and PayPal. The copy emphasises political solidarity over charity.
- Resources / Downloads: Selected materials from the African Healing Curriculum, available to registered users (light login for future expansion).
- Contact & Collaborate: A 'Work with Us' form for researchers, movements, and institutions, plus mailing list signup.
- Social Media Integration: Links and feeds for Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and WhatsApp.
Multi-language & Accessibility
The site supports English (primary) and Kiswahili using a translation plugin, with subtitles for video content. It is fully mobile-responsive and optimised for low-bandwidth connections in Kajiado and informal settlements.
Technical Implementation
Built on WordPress with a custom theme and Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) for the Living Archive. Payment integration uses the M-Pesa API (via a trusted gateway), plus standard PayPal and bank transfer options. The backend is designed for weekly updates by Enćani's team (we provided training). Security, backups, and hosting (migrated to a reliable Kenyan provider) are included in an ongoing maintenance retainer.
The Outcome
The Enćani website launched successfully in mid-May 2026, meeting the client's webinar deadline. It has since become a vital digital hub for Pan-African healing and political education.
For Enćani's Community
Over 30 active beneficiaries and a growing network of activists, grassroots organisers, and cultural workers now have a central online space to access healing resources, register for sessions, and share their own reflections. The Living Archive has already accumulated dozens of session reports and audio recordings, preserving indigenous knowledge and making it accessible beyond physical gatherings in Kajiado.
For Visibility & Solidarity
The bold, artistic design has attracted attention from potential partners and donors who resonate with Enćani's anti-colonial, cooperative vision. Solidarity contributions (via M-Pesa and PayPal) have begun flowing in, providing grassroots funding for the organisation's work. The clear presentation of mission, values, and programmes has also helped Enćani finalise its Trust registration by demonstrating a credible, operational entity.
For the Team
The easy-to-use WordPress backend allows Noosim and her six team members to update content weekly — adding new archive entries, posting events, and managing registrations without developer assistance. The training Stonehenge Digital provided has empowered them to own their digital presence.
Living the Values
The website itself embodies Enćani's core principles: it is a tool for collective liberation (sharing healing knowledge openly), praxis (reflection and action linked via events and archive), African epistemologies (prioritising indigenous aesthetics and knowledge systems), and non-extractive economics (framing financial support as solidarity, not transaction).
Technologies Used
Stonehenge Digital rescued our website after a previous developer disappeared. They listened deeply to our vision — a bold, artistic, 'musical' digital home for Pan-African healing, not a sterile NGO site. The Living Archive, solidarity contributions (M-Pesa, PayPal, bank), and the beautiful non-white-background design are exactly what we needed. Our team can update it weekly. We launched in time for our webinar, and the site has already helped us attract partners and solidarity. Asante sana!
